treeless saddles

Does anyone have experience with treeless saddles? I have been thinking about trying one but then I hear something negative about them, usually that they don't have the stability of a traditional saddle. However, there are certainly potential benefits also. I've heard people say they are very comfortable and you have closer contact with the horse. I've also heard that horses move more freely since the fit is likely to be better and there is less interference with the shoulder.
