Dancing with Horses

I'm taking an African dance class, and I think it's helping my riding!!! The whole thing is about loose hips and doing something with one hand and something else with another, lifting the right leg while swinging the left arm. I think it's even better than yoga (plus it's a really intense workout!) for improving my riding. The opposition stuff is really hard for me in riding-the lateral connection between the inside leg and outside rein--and I know why- from dance class. I simply can't get it when I do one thing with the left and another thing with the right- I always end up in sync instead of opposite.

Flipping channels tonight on our skytv satellite in our apartment in Prague, I find, much to my delight, a program on choreographing a dressage freestyle! Oh, to live in Europe and be surrounded by horse-y TV and horse statues and all things horse. So I sent the Sig. Other down to the bar while I watched and took notes for application when I get home. They even had a web address where you could download music for your iPod, along with instructions.

Riding to Music

Okay, love my new iPod! Today I rode to Mozart's horn concertos. Yesterday Buena Vista Social Club... I really got into it. I don't know if people consider this dangerous...Do you? Do you ever ride to music? I imagine out on the trail it would be, but tooling around the arena, I think it's okay. Curious to know what music you ride to...I'm starting to work on a freestyle so I'm collecting tunes in 4/4 time...
