Falling In Love And Loving It!

Posted by Beissin on 8/19/2007 on Beissin's blog | Groups: Pasture Pals

I am getting married two weeks from today. A few months ago, my fiancee' bought me a horse. I think about her now almost as much as I think about him! Is this normal?

Well, I guess it was going to happen sometime...

Well, things can't always be perfect, can they?

I fell off of Missy today. I don't know if I fell or if I bailed- it all happened so fast- but I hit the ground.

Doug has been off of the farm twice with Missy and some other horses, and she was nervous, but good. So, today I invited two girls to ride with me, and I thought that everything would be okay- she'd just follow them, right?

No Worries, Mate!

FINALLY! Missy has experienced her first trail ride! Well, we haven't ridden her outside of the roundpen, except for Friday, when I led her around with my mom, neice, and nephew taking turns sitting on her. So yesterday, our farm's owner was warming up Chico in the roundpen for a lesson later, and Doug tacked Missy up outside. Before we knew it, Angela was out there with us, with her young son riding double, ready for a ride down to the bridge. Doug informed her that he and Missy were going to tail along, and then Stacey got in on the action, bridling up April and jumping on bareback!

Missy, Superstar Extraordinaire? Maybe In The Future!

Finally! Missy has been doing wonderfully this whole week! After a small but worrisome buck with me riding on Monday, Doug went out to the farm for a riding lesson on another horse that night. On Tuesday evening he rode Missy with a crop for the first time. Whenever she stopped, he corrected her by tapping her on the rump. AND, he got her to TROT. Neither of us have EVER gotten her to trot before!

Standing for the dismount

Missy sure has come a long way since our first ride! Here, she was only ridden for about ten minutes at a walk in the roundpen before we quit for the day. This was taken June 11th, about a month after we bought her.

Missy looks terrific under saddle and with her favorite rider! (sorry, Doug!)

Can you see her feet? Well, the first time the blacksmith came, he couldn't touch them. Today, (June 14th- a month after we got Missy) he was able (with the help of a little concoction the vet brewed up!) to trim all four feet for the first time. While he was there, Missy popped a gravel in her right hind (the foot that was the worst), but I'm glad, because now it can heal, and her feet look great!

That's Our Girl!

After a few lessons in lunging, Missy accepts the saddle quite willingly, and as worn as both she and it are, doesn't she look FABULOUS in it? Oh yeah- and my fiancee' Doug doesn't look too bad himself!

Ribs and Hair

Shortly after we acquired Missy, we took these photos. It has only been a month, and Missy is doing GREAT, and she is even counting the days until our first trail ride!

Those brown tufts of winter hair are now gone, thanks to some regular grooming and de-wormer.

This is still within a couple of days of when we first got Missy. "Jack", a Missouri Fox Trotter, is in the back field.
