2007 American Saddlebred Fall Classic

I don't mean to brag but my daughter won the Kentucky State Championship in 11-13 Walk/Trot in Academy on Saturday.  I knew she was a great rider but we were stunned when she won. She is showing a young horse that she has not been riding much and this is the second show she has shown him at. There were I think 10 in the class. She has been showing less than a year. All she ever did before was fun shows and they were western. We were all pretty much thinking even if she did not get a ribbon that at least it is good experience for her and the horse. So needless to say we were all pretty much pumped!! She has a great instructor who is very positive with the students.

Congratulations! THIS IS PHENOMENOL!

She looks perfectly poised in the photograph, like she's been doing this her entire life! you must be very pleased and proud.

Yes we are very proud of her. I think she is a natural...at least that is what her instructor says. I just wish we could afford for her to show more. It is so expensive. We have to pick and choose which show is the cheapest so she only gets to show every couple of months. The barn she rides at also has fun shows where she shows western too some.

Yes, I know showing is so expensive. I've changed my attitude about it lately- not sure it's worth the price of admission sometimes, alhtough it is nice to see what progress you've made from show to show. I'm, personally, pretty ambivalent about showing. On the one hand, it's nice to see my scores going up (which they don't do very often, since I am NOT a natural), on the other hand it is so subjective. Who knows from show to show what the judge will like and what the weather will be and what mood the horse is in. It's a crap shoot.

Yeah I know, luckily she and I like to just ride too. I usually only do the local fun shows. She also realizes that the judges can be pretty finicky and does not get upset when she does not win. My gain goal in the future is when we get some land to get more horses and do a lot of trail riding.
