Posted by emily on 8/13/2007 on emily's blog We had a day off today, after getting right back to work this weekend. Belle is getting better and better with the saddle--only a matter of weeks now until she's reliable enough for me to sit on. And B has his homework for the next few months: Nailing the movements in second level test four and third level test three. He's been very cooperative for the past few days. We've been working on elasticity at all the gaits--having him jump through at the canter, rise over his back and into the bridle, and sit down on his haunches for push. It's actually feeling a lot better than it was right before the show. Isn't that always the way? I have no idea how I'm going to get all my horses worked when Belle starts really going. I'm going to have to find someone to lease/ride Volare, the old man, to keep him fit or at least stretched otu. Or maybe I need a helper who will tack everybody up, bring them out when they're ready, so if I don't have to do all the prep work, I can get three horses ridden in two hours, more or less. I used to be that girl. I worked for Dolly Hannon and Whit Watkins, and a couple of days a week my only job was tacking and untacking horses. Somedays Dolly would ride seven or eight, and Whit would ride three. |
