Posted by Melinda_Skylark on 4/24/2008 on Melinda_Skylark's blog Hey, so I haven't gotten on here in a very long time! I guess I should update first. I have decided that this will be my show jumpers last year showing. He is turning 17 this year and I don't think it's fair to keep pushing him at 3- 3'3' -3'6 anymore. I may take him to some local shows next year and do small stuff but we'll see about that. Rex and Tommy are the same as ever, although about two months ago Rex fell on me while riding. Neither him nor I were hurt so it was just kind of a scary situation. We were out riding and he didn't want to listen and wasn't really paying much attention and kind of just flopped over sideways while he was cross- cantering :( I was pretty mad. Mowgli is getting really big- bigger than we expected really. He's almost 11 months old now and he's quite large. He's also really learning quite quickly and has been given a bath, loaded onto the trailer, and walked across a blue tarp. I've been videotaping his progress so maybe I'll compile some of the footage and post it on here. Sadly we had to put Elmo down about a month ago. He just didn't want to get up one day and it turns out his organs were starting to fail. We decided that we shouldnt make him suffer and that giving him treatment would only be keeping him alive for our sakes and not for his sake so we put him down :( On a lighter note I just got a new 3 year old paint that is yet to be named ( i got him this past weekend) He doesn't know much of anything yet so he is my new project! I guess other than that there is not too much going on around here, just getting ready for the next show and breaking babies! |
Woah nelly!

Wow! So much has happened since your last post. How old was Elmo? I am starting my filly-she's very smart--too smart- and seriously working her now two or three days a week.
I don't know what I'll do with her. Now and then I think about selling her, but since I raised her, that's going to be really tough to do.
I get very attached to them. I guess I'm a lousy horse trader.

he was about 35 but we're not entirely sure, even still that's very old for a Belgian!
I know what you mean about selling horses, I haven't been able to sell one that I've purchased!
