Why My Dressage Horse Doesn't Longe

I wish I knew! He's just always been kind of a dink on the longeline. No amount of "forward" energy really comes through for him. The only thing that gets him going in a forward rhythm is me, going Trot, Trot, Trot, Trot (in the rhythm I want). It's pretty weird.

It's been so hot lately that yesterday I thought I might longe, and then long-line, B instead of ride him. I'm trying to keep him dressage-fit and keep a lot of variety in his program. I had forgotten that he's absolutely pony-stubborn on the longe line. By the end of the session, I realized that I have to start this horse all over again on the longeline if I'm going to be able to use it (and long lining) as a training tool. It's not the he's bad, he just doesn't go... He just plods along, won't canter, turns and faces me instead of stopping on the circle. It's one big ARGh. FOr a horse that does half pass, flying changes and all the third level dressage movement, it's just bizarre that he's so unresponsive on the longe. Maybe he just hates it.
