USEF Announces World Cup Teams

The USEF announced its dressage and jumping squads for the upcoming Rolex World Cup in Las Vegas. The teams are a bit of the same-old, same-old--but that's okay considering how well some of these riders did in Aachen, Germany in September at the World Equestrian Games. Rumor has it that Catherine Haddad, who rides and shows in Germany, is all that and more, and if she gets a chance to show it could be the clincher for the U.S team.
Dressage:
(Rider/Residence /Horse/Age, Breed, Sex/Owner)

Steffen Peters/San Diego, CA/Floriano/17-year-old Westphalian gelding/Stephen and Laurelyn Browning
Courtney King/New Milford, CT/Idocus/17-year-old Dutch Warmblood stallion/Christine McCarthy
Leslie Morse/Beverly Hills, CA/Tip Top 962/13-year-old Swedish Warmblood
gelding/Leslie Morse
FEI Additional Rider/Wild Card
Catherine Haddad/Vechta, Germany/Maximus JSS/12-year-old Danish Warmblood gelding/JanetS. Schneider Trust

There's no doubt about it, Beezie Madden's horse Authentic deserved the USEF's Horse of the Year award. After watching Madden at the World Games, where she got second place because of one rail down over countless rounds, you have to think that both the horse and rider have super powers. To top it off, Madden's so low key about the whole thing. And speaking of mythic, Margie Engle, who probably has more high profile injuries than any other rider on the top circuit, but who keeps on ticking, is back with Hidden Creek Perin, her 18-year-old legendary (and enormous) Holsteiner partner at World Cup and the last Olympic games, among other partnerships. Richard Spooner and Jill Humphrey are in from the West Coast. This time Richard won't be riding Robinson, the white, tongue-hanging horse, but instead another from his string, Cristallo, who is only 9, which is pretty young for a world competitor.
