Rainy Weather- No Riding Today!

Ah... So, the weather has finally begun to disrupt our training/re-training of Missy. And if I can't be with my horse, where else would I be than on my favorite horsey website? I clocked out twenty minutes ago, but I don't even want to walk across the street to go home and feed my cats and dog right now!It is storming like you wouldn't believe. At least I got Missy lunged this morning, before work. She had yesterday off, and was ridden Friday and Saturday. Hopefully, I will get a chance to ride her tomorrow! She is beginning to accept a rider better now, but is still untrustworthy. I must still have somebody lead, to be on the safe side. We just lunge her twice a day for short periods, the second time usually being the time that she is mounted, just for a short turn around the roundpen, until she discovers that we are not trying to hurt her or scare her. We always speak gently to her, and we spend a lot of time just being with her... grooming, petting, and letting her graze in the yard with another horse. I even brought a book out yesterday, with a chair, to read in her pasture, but the donkey would NOT leave me alone! He's such a DORK! Missy did come up to me to get her nose petted while I was sitting there, though. She's such a big, beautiful pet!

You sound like you're doing a fantastic job with her. How's the mounting going? Is she more accepting? Does she she like she's getting to trust you more? It sounds like you're really bonding with her.
We have new neigh...bors. Four of them, including a...guess what? Donkey!!! Volare (my old guy) thought that was about the scariest thing he'd seen in years... ACK!!!! What's that thing with the long ears?????ANd then bolted across the pasture.

I've had a terrible week at work, so this weekend I'm going to play with horses.. Belle, Volare, Baleno. They will all get ridden/worked.

Today and yesterday I got bold and tried to mount my mare when my fiancee' was at work. I lunged her, and got a good response, donned my helmet, grabbed the reins and a lead rope attached to the halter, mounted, and SAT. I just sat there for about thirty seconds both times, and then dismounted. She stood perfectly both times. We are both going out there to play with her tomorrow, so I will let you know if we have any more accomplishments (I hope!). We are both still quite infatuated with our new mare. She is eager to please and gorgeous! Right now, though, I am having trouble grooming her in the cross-ties in the barn because the farm's owners have added a new miniature stallion to their population, and he gets his head between the boards and constantly screams- especially when Missy is walking by. Ugh! Well, I'll write more tomorrow, or Sunday.

Horses are funny with new animals. The donkey at our farm thinks he is a stallion, and whenever any of the other geldings get near my mare and the other one, an Arab, the donkey lets out this strange wail as he charges across the field. He's such a dork! Missy doesn't pay him much mind. At least he isn't mean to her like two of the geldings (a Fox Trotter and an Arab) are! -Praise The Lord!
