Okay, have I been a very bad "enthusiast in chief" and not posted in THREE MONTHS! So bad, bad, bad. Anyway, I have plenty of excuses, not the least of which was the sale and subsequent state of flux of the site. But I decided this morning to keep it going, since I miss writing about this and that.
When I wrote the book, I really wanted to promote the idea that getting to be a good rider requires a great deal of dedication to improving your seat. I know, because I am by no means a perfect rider. I struggle mightily with poor posture and bad habits. When you go to Europe, and you see even the most casual riders, they are universally well balanced in the saddle. That's because they start out on the longe line. We don't. We're yahoos. Cowboys. I learned to ride on an obstreperous pony named Doodles that I rode bareback in a halter. I wish, now that I've become more serious about riding, that I'd worked a lot harder on my seat, or had a mean British instructor that made me trot on the longe line without stirrups. Anyway, I decided to put together some exercises for adults--a remedial longeing guide, as it were--for those riders that want to go back and work on their seats. So, buy my book! I can't be more clear about it than that. Hopefully you'll find it engaging and useful.
