Lucky Horsewoman

Wow! It seems like forever since I have either jogged and trained a Standardbred or ridden a horse (the last one being a cheerful little Arab named Maverick)! The last time for both of these for me was when I lived on an incredibly beautiful farm in Indiana, just last September. I live in Illinois now, and am just now beginning to get out and meet people in the community. I know I am looking forward to rubbing elbows with some of my former groom friends at the Indiana State Fair and at Springfield this year. I haven't found any dressage stables near me in Hoopeston- although everyone lives in the country and many people have horses, it doesn't seem like a commercialized business around here. Maybe I'll have to build my own stable and indoor arena (yes, I like being spoiled). Well, that's enough for now, I suppose. I've got to grab a slice of pizza and a Dr. Pepper before I head back to work.

Yes, it seems like there are fewer commercial stables in rural areas. We have that here, too--but the guy down the street just hung out his shingle as a hunter-jumper facility and went from 5 horses to 17 just like that...so there must be some pent-up demand. Do you have your own horse? Do you keep him/her at home?

Hi Emily,
No, I do not have my own horse, although a certain brown mare down the road has captured my fiance's and my eye! We are looking to buy her maybe this summer- we'll see. She is a sweetie!

There are some stables further down the road towards Danville- I might check at some of them for boarding and lessons. It really would be fun to show sometime. I have gotten close, but always moved or had some other incident happen that would not allow my dream to work out for the time being!

Well, thanks for writing. I would like to keep in touch and exchange notes on horses, riding, and such. Today I have a cold, and I am at the library. I really need to go home before I fall asleep on this keyboard and never finish this letter! I will write to you again soon!

Good luck looking into stables. It sounds like you're beginning a new chapter in your life, which is very exciting. Maybe horses will play a bigger and bigger role. I can't imagine life without them right now, although there are days when the manure pile looks like a monster, every fence looks like its about to come out of the ground, and the horses are just plain bratty. So although I can't imagine it, sometimes I like to get a vacation from the place and let someone else do the chores!

Keep me posted on your search for lessons and the brown mare.
