Lazy Sunday

I RODE HER YESTERDAY. By myself- no one holding her most of the time! Missy was VERY good, moving forward off my (very LIGHT) leg. I got her to turn once, but the second time we got a little too close to the fence before she really even thought about it, and instead of having our first argument, I had my fiancee' lead her into the turn instead. Then he rode her, with me holding. I guess I just didn't want to let her go, although he felt confident enough. I even wore my britches (Yes, I DO need to go on a diet, unless I want to have to buy a new wardrobe AND riding wardrobe! I can't afford that!) and boots. And, of course, my helmet. I felt like a real rider on a real horse! I was going to ride her today, but when I got out to the farm, several minis and the donkey were in the roundpen, and I just spent most of the two hours talking to the farm owner, grooming and feeding Missy a light lunch (we are still trying to get a good weight on her- she looks good and eats like a horse!), and playing with my adorable dog Frodo. I let Missy loose to graze in the yard, and Frodo and I sat in the grass talking to her and watching the antics of the new mini-stallion (the one Missy hates!). Finally, I drove back home to clean kennels at the vet's and to take a shower before church. I didn't lunge her or anything, and I still need another shower! Boy, is it muggy!! We'll both head out to feed her and put her away tonight. I don't think we'll lunge her. Working two jobs and not getting to bed until midnight last night really did me in! I guess we'll start back again on Monday.

COngrats on your first solo ride! It sounds wonderful, like she's settling right in and pretty soon, you'll be doing all kinds of stuff--walk, trot, canter, and so forth. So no misbehavior at all? That's great- and obviously you've licked the mounting problem, too! WOnderful for you! Don't you love working with horses? It's the most satisfying thing on the planet (see my post today about Belley loading up like a champion!).

That reminds me! I have plans to start training her to trailer-load later this week, whenever I have time, I guess. She rides well- I just don't want to have to deal with our first day again!

Yeah, Missy is coming along. I rode her yesterday and today- maybe 8-15 minutes apeice. Not too long. I was hoping to trot today, but instead we had to work on turning. We might be doing that for a while. I don't know if she knows what to do and is ignoring me, or if she really hasn't got a clue. She seems to have accepted the fact that we are going to ride her, and for the most part, maintains a good attitude about it! I praise her a lot, especially when she stops and stands well for me. I'm really excited! Missy really is turning into a beauty, both under saddle and without it. She is so sweet- that's what drew me to her in the beginning, out there in the feed lot field!

I now have pictures. I purchased a photo cd, but I don't know how to upload them. Maybe my fiancee' will be able to do that tonight while I'm at work. I hope!
-Praise The Lord!
