Posted by Beissin on 4/14/2008 on Beissin's blog Is it show season already? The show that I have been planning on to be MY (and my MISSY's) first show EVER is in about 3 1/2 weeks, I think. We have our Coggins, white breeches, a ride to the show, farrier and dental work (on MISSY) done, AND we have successfully ridden in her first indoor riding arena experience. Sounds like we're ready, huh? I still need a show coat and I think that MISSY and I need a riding lesson to tune me up and to help me figure out what to work on with her. I have never shown before, but I'm really hoping to pull this off before I leave Pennsylvania in a couple of months. Any advice? |

Well, first off, find a good instructor to practice ACCURACY! So many points are lost in Dressage shows because the rider isn't accurate, making nice 20 meter circles and going deep into the corners. Also, remember to stay calm no matter what she's doing. You both sound ready to go--just remember to smile, look at the judge, and nail those transitions!
Good luck,
let us know how it goes.

Thanks! I think because of finances, I am going to wait a month and enter a mixed show that my new instructor already goes to. I REALLY want to go to a Dressage schooling show that's not far away, but I would have to pay an arm and a leg to ship MISSY there since there are no other Dressage people at this new barn. But you're right- the instructor IS finding errors in both MISSY's and my performances in lessons. It helps to have a goal, though, right? -Praise The Lord!
