Posted by emily on 4/11/2007 on emily's blogOne of our members wrote me offline after I sent out one of those nagging emails about contributing, and said, "but I'm not a writer!"
So here's a quick guide on how to contribute to this site, especially blogging and comments section:
Blogging: is short for weblog. It is, essentially, a web diary.
And like a diary, it doesn't have to be letter perfect, grammatically correct or poetic or writerly in any way. You don't even have to capitalize. It's just your thoughts about all things horse sports oriented.
It is completely free form, and can contain just about anything (within the standards of decency, of course).
What you can post:
a joke (clean, please!)
a quote you like
A poem
the title and reference to an article you liked or didn't
A longer, more involved piece, such as FreyaFjord's PMU story
A review of an event you went to like a horse show or an expo.
You can even just write a short introductory sentence, like "I read this in The Horse Online Newsletter" and then copy and paste a paragraph, plus the URL to the story, (please do not post the whole article...we'd get in trouble).
A training diary that chronicles your progress over the course of several days, weeks, or months.
Recommendations about a book or vid. you liked.
Invitation to an event
A new product you discovered
And so on!
Forums and Comments:
Sites like yourhorsesports thrive on interaction... the more controversial a topic, the more excited people get. The web is a wonderful place to share your opinions. In the forums, we can discuss:
Drug testing
training methods
rule changes in various organizations
Shoeing issues (natural is the rage..what do you think?)
etc....
And if you see something you like, or don't, on this site, by all means make a comment. Don't be a skittish horse and shy away from controversy! A good argument stimulates the brain and exercises the mind.
I hope those of you lurking on the site will now feel encouraged to add your voice to yourhorsesports.com We can wait to hear from you.
